House Reno Retro Colour Drenching

The Brief

What began as an initial consultation for a modest update to this low-set home in Parrearra soon evolved into a more considered renovation. Our clients, a couple with a strong appreciation for retro design and bold colour, wanted a home that reflected their personality while improving functionality and flow.

We reworked the entire ground-floor layout to create a larger, more open kitchen and living zone that connects seamlessly to the alfresco entertaining area. A key priority was maintaining strong natural airflow throughout the home, ensuring the space remained comfortable and naturally ventilated year-round.

The design direction embraced colour and character, with a confident use of colour drenching in the bathrooms, an approach the clients fully embraced. The kitchen became a focal point of personality, blending modern functionality with a retro influence through curved green finger tiles wrapping around the island, playful hardware, and custom detailing.

To balance design impact with budget considerations, we introduced a high-quality laminate benchtop, allowing us to allocate investment into feature areas without compromising the overall aesthetic outcome

What we love
There are so many elements we love in this project, each one adding to its personality and sense of joy. One of our favourite details is the unexpected flash of green cabinetry hidden inside the timber appliance cupboard – a playful, bespoke moment that reveals itself only when used, adding a layer of surprise and individuality to the kitchen. In the bathroom, the deep forest green ceiling creates a cocooning effect, enveloping the space and enhancing the sense of intimacy while reinforcing the home’s bold, colour-driven direction. The ensuite is equally striking, with a rich terracotta palette that brings warmth, depth, and a beautifully grounded contrast to the cooler tones used elsewhere in the home. Together, these considered colour choices celebrate the clients’ love of retro-inspired design while delivering a cohesive, highly curated interior that feels both expressive and refined.
